Principal
Hello and Welcome to Don Callejon Arts and Design School!
I have had the pleasure of being the principal here at Don Callejon K-8 school since the 2022-2023 school year. Coming in and learning about Don Callejon, the highlights have been the dedication and adaptability of the staff, the focus and support from the our Don Callejon families, and our students' ability to work hard, play hard, and try everything. Don Callejon is coming off of several years of difficult transitions in leadership and focus, and I have the opportunity to begin to refine our efforts, bring more precision to our vision, and find ways to provide more rigorous and engaging academics and social education for our students. Please do not hesitate to reach out for a meeting to meet or with questions, concerns or compliments. Email is the best form of contact for me: aalberts@scusd.net
About Me
I graduated from the International Baccalaureate program from Mira Loma high school in 2001, while also working at various restaurants. I received my undergraduate degree in Literature from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2005. From 2001 to 2008, I worked in private industry and moved up to customer service management before deciding on a career in education. In 2009, I received my Masters in Teaching with credentials in English Language Arts and Social Studies. From 2009 until 2017, I worked as a middle school teacher, where I added credentials in (and taught) General Sciences and Biological sciences, and coached cross country and track and field.
In 2017, I began my career in educational administration as the assistant principal of Morrill middle school in the Berryessa Union school district. During my tenure, the staff and students became recognized as an AVID school, a National Equity school, and a California Distinguished school for the first time in their history. In 2021, I was fortunate to work at Laneview elementary as their principal for that year, but while enjoying my new elementary experience, I missed working with middle school students. Don Callejon's principalship was open and I was drawn by the K-8 (now TK-8) vision, as well as by what I had learned about the community and the staff. In 2022, I was lucky to be chosen and became the current principal here at Don Callejon, where I look forward to continuing to build upon and improve the already stellar reputation this school and community has.
